Description

This handsome marble building situated 3 miles from the capitol in a park of 500 acres and was founded in 1851. It is supported by a monthly tax of 12 cents on each soldier of the regular army for whose use it is reserved. It supports 500 disabled soldiers and was built by the tribute money levied on the city of Mexico by Gen. Scott during the Mexican war.
