Description

On verso:
No. 275. CLIFF HOUSE AND SEAL ROCKS, SAN FRANCISCO, CAL.
One of the most beautiful rides one can take in. San Francisco is through the Golden Gate Park, over the Sutro Heights, past the Cliff House and Seal Rocks, past the Golden Gate Cemetery and the Presidio. At the latter place a magnificent view is had of the rocks overhanging the Golden Gate, while in Sutro Heights Park the beautiful grounds laid out and opened to the public by Adolph Sutro, afford the charming prospect shown in our picture. The Cliff House is a hotel and restaurant. The Seal Rocks, a stone’s throw from the land, are covered with hundreds of huge sea lions basking in the sun. Some of these animals, protected by stringent laws, are from 12 to 15 feet long and weigh upwards of 1,000 pounds. Their shrill barking is easily audible on the piazza of the hotel amid the roar of the breakers. Near the Cliff House are the large, well equipped Sutro public baths, with salt water swimming pools, an aquarium, restaurants and a theater.
