Subject
Grindelwald (Switzerland)
Alps Region
Description
On verso:
This view presents one of the most charming pictures to be seen by the traveler in the valley of the Grindelwald. The neat homes of the villagers in the foreground, the gentle slopes and foot-hills beyond, above which tower majestic mountains, whose summits reach the clouds, all together afford a contrast in form and color that entrances the beholder. In the background the rugged precipices of the beautiful three-peaked Wetterhorn are seen rising above green Alpine pastures and culminating in glistening snow-fields. The mountain derives its name from the belt of clouds that almost continually hovers around its summit, enabling the people in Grindelwald to forecast the weather with considerable accuracy.
