Description
On verso:
No. 261. KING’S PALACE, STOCKHOLM, SWEEDEN.
Stockholm, the capitol of Sweden, is picturesquely situated on a group of islands in a bay of the Baltic Sea at a point where the beautiful Lake Malar empties its waters into the sea. Because of its surpassing beauty, Stockholm has been called the “Northern Venice”, and it certainly offers an enchanting sight on approach from the sea or from the height of Moseback Hill. The most modern parts of the rapidly growing city extend on the mainland north of the islands, but the most famous and the oldest buildings of the city are found on the islands. The Royal Palace, of symmetrical proportions, is a fine building of the seventeenth century, and is conceded to be one of the most beautiful palaces in the world. The view in the picture is taken from the opposite shore, near the National Museum. The surroundings of the city are charming.
